Record podcast interviews on Mac — no Riverside, no Zencastr

Capture remote podcast interviews directly on your Mac. Both sides in a single file, your mic at full quality, and local transcription for show notes. No cloud uploads, no per-guest accounts, no $30/month SaaS.

How it works with Podcast interviews

  1. 1

Start your call — Zoom, Meet, Riverside, whatever

Call Recorder doesn't care which tool you use for the call. It records the audio your Mac is playing plus your mic.

  2. 2

    Record in full quality

System audio at 48kHz stereo. Your mic at whatever quality your interface supports. Both captured in parallel.

  3. 3

    Export, transcribe, publish

The stop action gives you a ready-to-edit .m4a. One click transcribes it for show notes, chapter markers, and SEO descriptions.

Why Call Recorder for Podcast interviews

The cloud podcasting tools work — but they cost money every month, require your guests to install something, and upload everything to their servers. Call Recorder is a one-time $15 that lives in your menubar and produces the same deliverable: a clean mixed track.

  • No per-guest account — guests just need to be on the call
  • No cloud upload — episodes stay on your disk
  • Works with Zoom, Google Meet, Teams, Riverside, SquadCast, Discord
  • Whisper transcription drafts your show notes in one click
  • No monthly bill — $15 once and keep it forever
  • Records your local mic at the best quality your interface supports

Podcast interviews — Q&A

Does it give me separate tracks per speaker?+

No — it captures a mixed system-audio track and a separate mic track, combined into one .m4a on export. If you need per-speaker isolated tracks for heavy editing, Riverside or SquadCast remain better choices. For most interview podcasts, a mixed track is exactly what you want.

How does audio quality compare to Riverside?+

Riverside's advantage is that each guest records locally at full quality, then uploads. Call Recorder captures what the call delivers to your Mac — if your guest's connection is poor, that shows up. For podcasts where you can trust guest audio (repeat guests, studios), quality is indistinguishable.

Is the transcript good enough for show notes?+

Yes — Whisper large-v3-turbo is near state-of-the-art on English podcasts and excellent across 99 languages. Speaker labels are not included; we recommend a quick pass to add them.

Can I record a podcast I'm listening to (not making)?+

Yes — drop any mp4/mp3 into Call Recorder's transcription window for a local transcript. Useful for research and clipping.
